“Hey, I’m sorry to just drop by. I wanted to see you.” Shit!

  “It’s okay, how are you?”

“I’m sorry for ditching you at the party. I feel awful. I just was drunk and wanted to hang out with everyone. I really wanted you to hang out with us as well. But I understood you weren’t up for it.” He gets a faraway look.

“It’s really okay. I had fun. I was tired and more worried about Brooke. And all I really wanted to do then was to go home and sleep.” Or spend the rest of the evening with Lucas

“Anyway, I wanted to make sure we were okay and you weren’t mad at me.” Crap! Why is making me feel so shitty?

“We are fine and I’m not mad. Really.” Finally, he accepts and starts walking off, not before turning around and saying over his shoulder, “I love you. I’ll call you later.” And he leaves. I turn to go into my house.

“So how was the mall?” My mother asks as I enter my home.

“It was nice. Brooke tried on every outfit in sight. But she found some cute stuff.” I walk in my room and plop on my bed exhausted. All of a sudden I hear a noise coming from the other room. I sit up in bed and move to the door.

“I can’t believe he dumped me! What a fucking asshole!” Sarah is obviously speaking to someone on the phone. Lucas dumped Sarah. A smile forms on my lips and I strain to hear more of the conversation.

“No, he said I was too young. What the Hell kind of excuse is that? We never even had sex yet. No, but I’m seriously going to kill Abby if she’s the reason.” I flinch at that comment and move back to my bed. I lay on my stomach with my chin on my arm. Then I hear my phone buzz and I grab it off my desk.

“I miss you. I guess by now you’ve heard?” A text from Lucas.

“Yes, she’s on the phone crying loudly to Haley I’m assuming.” I answer.

“Yea, sorry I couldn’t keep up the charade any longer.” Neither could I.

“It’s okay. I love you for doing it, regardless. I will come by tonight.”

“I’ll be waiting.” I close my phone and lay there for a little bit.

“So I guess you heard? Lucas broke up with me!” Sarah storms into my room like the police.

“Yea, you’re pretty loud. Sorry to hear that.” I don’t sound the least bit sympathetic and she knows it.

“Cut the bull shit Abby! I know you had something to do with it.” She glares at me and I laugh inside. You don’t deserve him. I think to myself.

“Well if I did, I didn’t know.” She’s not buying it.

“If I find out you did so help me God Abby!” I stand up and get in her face so fast she backs up. “You’ll what, yell at me? I don’t care Sarah! He deserves better than you anyway! I’m glad he ended it! Now get the fuck out of my room!” Our mother walks in.

  “What’s going on?”

“Lucas broke up with me and I suspect its Abby’s fault!” My mother looks at me for a minute then turns to Sarah.

“Honey, you are a bit young for him.” Sarah glares at her.

“Are you serious? So you were against us being together too?”

“Well, yes actually. First of all, he was Abby’s ex boyfriend and that’s not right to date him. He’s off limits.” Judging by her posture and the look in her eyes, I can tell she wants to punch my mom in the face.

“I can’t believe this shit. I’m going to Haley’s house. Screw this family!” She stalks out of the room. I sit back down on my bed, my mother follows suit.

“Well thank goodness for that.” She says and we laugh. She pats my leg and gets up.

“Hey mom, can I go hang out with Brooke tonight?” I hate having to lie to my mother, but I really wanted to be with Lucas, and I knew that Brooke would totally cover for me if I asked her to. I just have to make sure to talk to Brooke about it, and figure out a plan. But then again, my mom would never think twice about my whereabouts if she thinks I’m with her. I quickly text Lucas before getting ready. “Getting ready now, be there shortly”

I get a response immediately. “Okay, we can go to the river when you get here.” I smile right away at that. I’ve wanted to go back to our spot, well for awhile now. I throw my phone in my purse and pick out something sexy from my closet. I find my recent purchase on a hanger and grab it out, taking it to the bathroom. It’s a fuchsia scoop neck Chiffon dress. It’s hot and perfect for today. I slip it on over my head and fix the straps. I fix my hair and makeup-perfect. Satisfied with my appearance, I glide out of the bathroom and grab my purse and keys from my bedroom.

“Ooh, you look beautiful! What’s the occasion?” I turn to my mother, giving her a sideways glance and guilt takes over. I shove it down hard and smile. “Oh, we’re not sure yet. I just felt like dressing up for once.” It’s not a total lie. I give her a peck on the cheek and head out the door. “Don’t wait up for me! Love you!” I skip to my car in a daze. I can’t wait to see Lucas.

Shit, the first thing I think when I arrive is I need to hide. The second thing I need to figure out is what Sarah is doing there and how I’m going to get to him. I send him a text.

“What is Sarah doing at your house?”

“Where are you?” He replies quicky.

  “Down the street.”

“Shit! I’m sorry, she showed up out of nowhere. But I will make her leave.”

“Okay. Text me when the coast is clear.”

I set my phone down, it buzzes right away. That was fast, I think. But then I look and see her car still parked in the same spot. I look at my phone and see it’s a text from Brady. Damn

He always has perfect timing. I scowl, ignore it and lean my head back on the seat rest. I must have conked out because the next thing I know Lucas is tapping at my window. I sleepily lift my head and open the door.

“Hey, I’m sorry about that. Sarah wanted to tell me off and call me every name in the book. Gee, the mouth on that girl is-“I close the distance between us and kiss him next to my car, catching him off guard. He wraps his arms around my waist and I wrap mine around his neck. He pulls back and studies me for a minute. “I’ve missed you.” I smile and nuzzle his neck. “I’ve missed you too Luke.” He untangles himself from me and gives me a once over.

“Damn Abby. May I say you look hot! It’s definitely going to be hard to keep my hands off of you!” I laugh and kiss his shoulder. “Yea, I thought you’d say that. But I’m sure you can make it for at least a few hours.” We walk hand in hand to his house and I turn around and say “Wait, shouldn’t I move my car closer to your house?” He thinks about it for a minute and shakes his head. “No, in case Sarah comes back, you don’t want her to see your car there. She’d freak.” Good point. We head to the front door holding hands; he grabs his keys and a picnic basket. I glance at him in wonder. He packed us a lunch? I get all giddy inside.

“So, you planned all this huh?” I tease. He smiles, his gorgeous white teeth beam, and nods. “Every bit of it. I’ve been waiting to go back to our spot with you for quite some time.” So have I. He has no idea. I lean my head on his chest intimately to show appreciation.

“Everyone is gone for the night. The house is ours for the taking.” My eyes light up, as intimate thoughts flood my mind. “So why are we leaving then?” He kisses the tip of my nose. “I wanted to start off somewhere special first, then we can end up back here if you so desire.”

It seems we may have the same idea. He winks at me and bumps my hip with his. I kiss him then head for the door. “You better behave or we won’t be going anywhere mister, and then your plan will be for nothing.” I open the front door and head out to the car, putting some sway into my walk.

  Chapter 15

We get to our river and get out of the car. I grab the blankets out of the trunk, while Lucas takes the cooler of food and drinks. I’m feeling giddy and daring, but so excited to be here with Lucas on our own. Guilt stirs in the back of my mind for lying to my mom about where I was going but I shove it so far down it disappears without a second thought.

This is our time. I think to myself. We shouldn’t have to feel guilty about being together, even though I know that it’s wrong, because I’m still with Brady. Again, I push that feeling of guilt away. I can’t think about that now.

I lay the blanket down over a patch of grass and notice Lucas staring at me.

“What?” I ask a bit curious.

“You know, it’s hard to concentrate on anything with you looking so sexy right now, bending over.” He smirks and I blush from the top of my scalp to the bottom of my feet. But, I’m enjoying every bit of this. I think I will make him work for it. I put my hands on my hips and cock my head to one side.

“Well, you’re going to have to control your raging hormones for a bit.” He laughs and helps me smooth out the blanket. We set our stuff done and I gather plates and eating utensils. We are not sitting close, for the moment and Lucas notices the distance and pats a spot next to him. I playfully scoot over closer to him. I catch his scent as it hits my nose and I can’t help but sniff the air, like a little puppy. Be cool Abby

“I’m so happy to finally be here with you again.” He says to me. I look up at him and his eyes are tender and kind. I’m utterly mesmerized.

“I am too Lucas. I know I’ve been denying you and my feelings, but what I’m doing is wrong. But right now, a big part of me really doesn’t care anymore.”

“So when are you going to tell your mom? Brady?” I hold up my hand to stop him, while I make me a sandwhich.

“I’m not ready yet. But in the meantime, we can still have some fun.” A smile spreads across his lips and he rubs my shoulder gently.

“Okay, so you mean sneak around?” I nod my head.

“I’ve always been a good girl; I kind of get a thrill of being bad for a little while.” I lean over and nip at his bottom lip, which gets him excited. He tries to lean in and kiss me back, but I lean away and take a bite out of my sandwich instead.

“So that’s how it’s going to be huh?” I teasingly shove him and he doesn’t budge. Gee he must be made of iron.

“I’m hungry, let’s eat.” He shakes his head and moves everything aside, my pulse quickens as he leans into me, trying to divert my attention away from the food.

“Not yet Lucas. I want to eat first.” But he doesn’t relent and I cast him a sidelong glance. He places both of his hands on either side of my thighs and is mere inches from my face. Our gazes lock and I’m transfixed, unable to move, totally captivated by him. He leans in and I think he’s going to kiss me, my lips part in anticipation but then he pulls back and says.

“Two can play that game.” I slap his shoulder in shock but laugh to keep it light.

After an hour of laying my head in Lucas’s lap where I feel content and safe, while he runs his fingers through my hair over and over, lulling me to sleep, I look up at him and he smiles. It’s a glorious day and I don’t want it to end. How am I supposed to go on like this? I can’t go back to Brady’s arms when being with Lucas is where I wanna be. It’s so frustrating. I’m not the cheating kind and it sucks but at the same time the thought of sneaking around with Lucas, getting in some special, alone time is a really thrilling thought. I guess I can do it for a little while. It will be enjoyable and we would make it worth our time.

“What are you thinking?” He asks, pulling me away from my scattered thoughts.

“Just what a thrill our secret is gonna be.” I smile and he lightly brushes my jaw with his finger, sending shivers all the way down to the tips of my toes. Butterflies swarming in my tummy. I sigh loudly.

“You’re a hot mess Abby, but you’re my hot mess.” He says as he leans down to kiss me softly on the lips. I reach my arm up over my head and wrap it around his neck as we kiss for several minutes. His tongue moves in and finds mine instantly. I feel like melted butter and moan against his mouth. He tastes so good. He smells so good too. I finally move away from him and get up on my knees and lightly push him down until he’s on the ground and I’m on top of him. I like the feeling of being on top. It exudes dominance.

“I love it when you’re pushy.” He says in-between kisses.

“You ain’t seen nothing yet baby.” I pin both of his arms to his side, and start kissing his mouth urgently. Then I trail kisses from his mouth to his neck. All of sudden I feel a raindrop. At first I’m startled, then shrug it off and go back to kissing Lucas on his neck. Then I feel another, then another, and another. Oh shit!

“Fuck! Let’s get out of here before we get soaked.” I laugh at him. It’s like he’s scared of water. I’ve never been romantically kissed in the rain before or danced in the rain, so I shake my head.

“Come on, dance with me.” He looks at me confused, then his eyes change to understanding and passion.

“You’re the most beautiful thing in the world Abigail!!” I blush, though it’s unseen due to the rain splashing my face. We stand there, under the rain in an embrace, which says more than words could ever say. He puts his arms around me, protectively, yet possessively and I bury my head in his chest, while we sway to nothing but the rhythm of the rain. We are soaked from head to toe.

“I love you Lucas. Always have, always will.” I say in his ear. I feel him smile from ear to ear.

“I love you more than you could ever imagine. I don’t want us to ever part again.” I wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him sweetly as we’re still swaying, dancing. We’ll probably catch pneumonia but in this moment I could care less. Then we playfully push each other and we both fall to the ground, still in an embrace. We roll around on the ground, laughing.

“Take me to your house, Lucas.” I look at him, still wrapped up in his body.” He looks serious and a grin spreads on one side of his mouth.

“I was hoping you’d say that.” Then we roll around some more, he on top of me, I on top of him. We are drenched in dirt and rain and I wonder how we’re going to drive home in this condition but I don’t put too much thought into it. Instead I just bask in his glorious scent and continue kissing and rolling around with him.

“Actually I want to stay like this for awhile.” I say, I’m on top and I look down into his soulful eyes, which see straight to my heart. I hug him close and he buries his face into my hair.

“You smell so good Abby. It’s intoxicating. I think it’s time to leave now.” He says trying to get up. I don’t relent, and instead, nuzzle his neck.

“In a hurry, are we?” He nods his head firmly and with a wide smile on his face. Okay so maybe we should leave. I get up swiftly and reach out to help him up. Then I wipe my hands on my clothes to get the muddy gunk off. Great, this was a nice dress and now it’s plastered in mud. Oh well.

“I’ll buy you a new dress.” He says, as if reading my thoughts. I shake my head. “That’s not necessary. I chose to wear this. I’ve got others.” I smile at the gesture though. I lay the blanket in the trunk then set the cooler and supplies on top. We are both a mess but neither of us really care. We’re too giddy and high off adrenaline and love to care about anything. He stands in front of me next to the car and pushes a strand of my hair behind my ear. An electric shock runs through my body. The smallest contact has a real crazy effect on me. Brady has never affected me in this way. Sometimes, I wish he had. For the first time in forever, or ever actually I’ve danced and made out in the rain and I’ve never been happier than in this moment. I blush and bat my eyes like a school girl.

“This has been, amazing. Sorry the rain has ruined it. I want to stay, I just don’t want you to get sick.” I lift my hand to his face and run my thumb lightly over his cheekbone and gaze into his intense and beautiful green eyes.

“Being with you in anyway is perfect, nothing has been ruined.” Now in a demanding and less sweet voice I say, “Now get me to your house so I can take a shower. I’m feeling mud in places I never knew existed.” He raises an eye brow in curiosity. Then he opens my door and I step in and sit, getting his seat dirty. He gets in his seat next to me and starts the car.

“Oh wait!” I yell, startling him.

“What’s wrong?” I jump out of the car and find a stick; Lucas leans over the steering wheel trying to figure out what I’m doing. I find the perfect spot and write our names in the mud. It’s silly, but I figure before it gets washed away I wanted to see it in writing. Lucas gets out of the car and joins me. He wraps his arms around me as he reads what I wrote.

  Abby + Lucas= Forever

He smiles wide and kisses my temple.“Do you really mean that Abby?” He asks me and I turn to look him straight in the eye.

“I’ve always known in my heart that we were meant to be together Lucas. Ever since we were eight. And then again when we were twelve and ever since then, I never thought for a second that we weren’t meant to be. It’s going to be a bumpy road and we’re going to have hard times but I’m willing to do what it takes to make it work. With you.” He grabs me in a kiss, so deep and passionate that I forget where I am. Both of his hands grasp my face and I’m about to burst with so much emotion coursing through my veins. I want him. I want him now. I break away.

  “Come on. Let’s go.”

The drive back to Lucas’s house is quiet, the air is thick with tension but it’s not the bad kind, as we are both lost in our own thoughts. He grabs my left hand, lacing his fingers through mine, while he keeps his eyes on the road. I feel a mixture of anticipation and anxiety. I stare out the window as the trees and houses fly past my vision. The highway is deserted and it’s getting darker. As we near his house, on the corner Bailey Drive, butterflies tickle my belly.

I glance at Lucas who has an unreadable expression on his face. I wish I knew what he was thinking. He glances at me and smiles, and then squeezes my hand reassuringly. The gesture makes my heart leap. We pull up and he parks his car in the driveway. He gets out and hurries to my side and opens my door. Always a gentleman We stand there for a moment, in front of his house by his car, gazing into each other. I smile shyly at him and bring my head down.
